Dishwasher parts

Poor cleaning is nearly always maintenance rather than a broken part: blocked spray holes, a filter nobody has ever taken out, or water arriving lukewarm. When a part has genuinely failed, drain pumps and door latches dominate, and the circulation motor is the one repair that can outprice the machine.

Find your dishwasher model number first

No supplier can sell you the right part without it, and the name printed on the front of the appliance is not it.

  1. On the edge of the inner door

Open the door and look at the side or top edge of the door panel itself — the surface you only see when the door is open. This is where most brands put it.

  2. On the tub rim

Same door-open view, but on the frame of the tub rather than the door. Check the left rim first.

  3. Behind the lower kick plate

Two screws release the toe panel. The tag is on the frame or on the side of the tub behind it.

What the tag looks like

Typically 10 to 14 characters, and on several brands there is a shorter number printed on the door frame that is a series code, not the model. If a supplier's search returns nothing, you have probably read the series code — go back and take the longer string.

What fails on a dishwasher

Ordered most-replaced first. Prices are typical retail ranges for the part alone — not quotes, and not including labour. Confirm the part against your model number before you order.

Dishwasher replacement parts with symptom, install difficulty, typical retail price and expected lifespan
PartWhat you noticeInstallTypical priceLifespan
Drain pumpCheck first: Clear the filter and check the air gap or disposal knockout plug first — a new disposal with the knockout still in place blocks the drain completely and looks exactly like a dead pump.Standing water in the sump at the end of every cycle, often with a buzz at the drain step.moderate1–2 hours$35$120Either works8–12 years
Spray armCheck first: Twist it off and hold it to a light. Clear every hole with a toothpick and check for hairline splits along the seam — a cracked arm bleeds pressure and never washes properly again.Top rack comes out dirty, or grit sprayed back onto everything.easy10–20 minutes$15$55Aftermarket is fine5–10 years
Door latch and switch assemblyCheck first: The switch inside the latch is what the control watches, not the latch itself. If the door closes firmly and the panel still shows an open door, the switch has failed.Cycle will not start, or stops the moment the door is nudged.easy30–60 minutes$20$80Either works6–12 years
Water inlet valveCheck first: Shut the supply and check the inlet screen for scale. Then listen at the base during fill — a healthy valve hums. Silence with power at the terminals means the solenoid is open-circuit.Too little water in the tub, a long fill, or an F7/E4 style fill fault.moderate45–90 minutes$20$75Either works8–12 years
Heating elementCheck first: Test the exposed terminals under the machine for continuity. Note that many newer dishwashers use condensation drying and have no element at all — check the spec before you order.Dishes come out wet and plastics stay soaked after a full heated-dry cycle.moderate1–2 hours$25$85Either works8–14 years
Float switchCheck first: Lift the float cup in the tub floor and let it drop. If it sticks, clean under it first — grease and a stray label jam it up and cost nothing to fix.Machine will not fill even though water is available at the tap.easy20–40 minutes$10$35Aftermarket is fine10+ years
Door gasket or tub sealCheck first: Run a finger round the seal for flat spots and hardened sections. Soak the new one in warm water before fitting so it seats into the channel instead of fighting you.Water trickling down the front of the door or pooling at the toe kick.easy30–60 minutes$20$75Buy OEM6–12 years
Rack roller and adjuster kitCheck first: Purely mechanical. Check for missing wheels and cracked clips. These are also the parts most likely to be discontinued on an older machine, so search availability before you plan around them.Upper rack sags, jams, or drops on one side when you pull it out loaded.easy15–30 minutes$12$50Either works5–10 years
Detergent dispenserCheck first: Watch a cycle with the door cracked for a moment at the main wash. If the latch never releases, the wax motor or solenoid inside the assembly has failed — most brands sell it only as a complete unit. The door of the dispenser stays shut through the cycle, or opens and the tablet does not dissolve.moderate1–2 hours$30$100Buy OEM8–12 years
Circulation pump and motorCheck first: Confirm the arms are clear and water is filling to the heating element before you condemn the motor. This is the repair to price against a replacement machine — parts plus labour often crosses half the cost of new.Cycle runs full length with no wash sound and the dishes come out exactly as they went in.advanced3–4 hours$90$330Buy OEM8–14 years

Easy · 5

Screwdriver, maybe a nut driver

Moderate · 4

Nut drivers, multimeter, a helper for heavy panels

Advanced · 1

Full socket set, multimeter, and somewhere to lay the machine down

5 of these 10 parts need nothing more than a screwdriver. Before you accept a repair quote on a dishwasher, it is worth knowing which tier the part sits in — the labour is usually the larger half of the bill.

OEM or aftermarket for a dishwasher

Paying OEM for everything is waste. Saving on the wrong part costs you the repair twice.

The door gasket and the sump seal are worth buying OEM; every leak complaint that follows a repair traces back to a seal that was almost the right profile. Spray arms, rack rollers, float switches, inlet valves and drain pumps are all safely aftermarket. Control boards are OEM only in practice — the aftermarket ones are usually refurbished originals anyway.

Not sure the dishwasher is worth the part?

Check what it is still worth before you spend. The Appliance Blue Book takes its age, brand tier and condition and tells you whether a repair still makes sense — or points you at someone local who can quote the job properly.

Part prices are our own editorial estimates of typical retail ranges for the part alone. They are not quotes, they exclude labour, and they vary by brand, model year and stock. Shipping and returns terms are those each supplier publishes and can change without notice. Always verify part compatibility with your specific model number before purchasing, and disconnect power before any inspection.
